          GENERATION #1

MARY EMILY CATOR married JOHN PRATHER June 2, 1856 in Prince George's County, MD (one of the primary locations of "Our Cators".)

1880 Census for Prince George's County, Maryland
John R. Prather is 47 years old and works as a carpenter. He was born in DC to a DC born father and a MD born mother.  All others are born in MD to MD born parents.
His wife Mary E. is 40 (?) years old and keeps house.  Their children are:  Edward M. (23), Richard F.(21), Elizabeth V (18; married a Magnum), Francis C, a son (9), Susan E (7), William Platt (4; born 17 Jan. 1877; died 17 Jan 1899), Lethia A. (infant).  A daughter Edith Prather was born later.
 
Susan E. is actually Emma Susan PRATHER.

1910 Census for Nottingham, Prince George's County, Maryland
John R. Prather, a farmer,  is now 75 and has been married 53 years to his 73 year old wife, Mary E., who gave birth to 9 children, 6 of whom are still living.  Their daughter Edith E. Grimes is living with them and has been married for 6 years.  Her husband Mordacai R. is 33 and works at a grocery store. They had 3 children, only 2 of whom have survived, Mary M. who is 4 and Emma V. who is 2. 

  GENERATION #2

daughter EMMA SUSAN PRATHER  m. john luther jones April 28, 1896 in DC.

Emma died at 100 in the year 1972;  she died at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Washington, DC. Emma Susan was born 1872 at Nottingham, Maryland

1920 Census for Washington DC, V St.
John L. Jones was 50 in 1920 and his wife was 47.  Children listed are son, Elsworth W. age 19; Vangie age 13; Irene age 5.  Also living with them is Catherine McDaniel, who is listed as "mother," assumedly John's.  John and Emma were born in MD.  The children in Washington DC.  John worked as an "oiler" at the steelworks.  Emma as a saleswoman at a department store.    

Elsworth W. , born 1901, was an apprentice machinist and eventually married MAUDE LNU, but they had no children. 

Vangie E. Jones, b. 1907, married Jack Stanton;  d. 1967;  Jack and Vangie had a daughter Mae Viola Elizabeth Jones. 

Other children of John and Emma were Judith; William; Irene E. Jones, b. 1915. 
There also was a daughter Catherine "Katie" Virginia who died at about 5 yr. Katie may be buried at Andrews Air Force Base.

Emma S. and John L. Jones are buried at Congressional Cemetery at Site R110/201.  Emma died April 24, 1972.  John died 10 years earlier on June 14, 1962.

1930 Census for Washington DC, 11th St SE
Mordecai is the head of household and works as a custodian for the US government, he 54 years old and married at age 26 to Edith E. Grimes who does not work.  She is 50.  Children still in the home are Emma V. who is 22 and single.  Emma works as an office clerk.  Mordecai Jr is 19 and works in an electrical shop.  Mellica F. Grimes is 14 and Roy H. is 9.

On Saturday, March 21, 1931 at 8:30 p.m. at the Emergency Hospital, Elizabeth Mangum Mitchell, beloved wife of Robert C. Mitchell and daughter of the late John R. and Mary E. Prather. Funeral from the residence of her son Kelly Mangum, 468 G street southwest on Wednesday, March 25 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
