heating and water:

Oops!  Realized that we haven't mentioned these important items.

First heating...we are now the proud owners of two heat pumps, and a propane vent-free fireplace.  Ace did the heating work and they were great - made suggestions, excellent work, friendly, and most importantly they were there when they said they would be.  Joy!  Here is some of their duct work.

And notice that plumbing work too.  Little did we know that plumbers are the key to getting the house done and we have had problems galore.

First, we struggled to find a plumber.  Talked with couple behind us, David and Lynn, who own an industrial plumbing business and they agreed to do the job for us.  Bless them!  It has been a long drawn out process as we have been squeezed in as a plumbing job.

To boot, we did a water test in the house and the Nationwide system failed.  Drains didn't work.  Shower wouldn't stop.  Etc., etc.  We had flooding in one bathroom and several drippy areas down to the basement.  David has had to take on this problem too...more squeezing us in.  Bernie is aware of this problem and will handle payment through Nationwide.  We purchased the top line of Kohler products for our home, and we were disappointed with the Nationwide plumbing craftsmanship...Kohler products are pretty and will soon work correctly.

And our awaiting Larry Merrill's people to complete the moving of the existing farm water line and putting in the 800 feet of water line from the meter to our home has been a heartburn situation!  Finally done.

I read in the newspaper that we are one of only about 100 city water users in Henderson County.  We are relieved to be one.  In the Water Department of Henderson County and the Water Department of Buncombe County, we are known as "The Cators".  We were the test case in getting a water permit amidst the lawsuit between the two counties over water authority rights.  Never have we practiced so much patience and diplomacy.  Beaurocracy reigns!

And lest we forget, drainage - the septic field and tank!  Excellent subcontractor, Hoots Furman.

This is an enhanced photo of our "ditch" to divert water from the drain field - several
    hundred dollars when completed!
Uck!  Not sure how to landscape this!

And this is the drainfield  We sowed seed, and got straw, but it rained prior
to the straw being spread...so far.

And this is Patrick standing atop our 1000 gallon
septic tank - which can only be covered by 8" of
dirt.    We will be measuring it again prior to final
     inspection.

More to come from...
